Tribute to Benny Goodman
& Peggy Lee
Big Band
Monday, September 22, 2008
In
March 1937 Benny Goodman played The Paramount Theatre in New York
City. The result was pandemonium with screaming fans jamming the
theatre, and The King of Swing was born! Everett Longstreth's Tribute
to Benny Goodman brings the music back to life with his true-to-style
direction and focus on the big band repertoire of the early 1940s.
A rising vocal star, Amanda Carr, adds her own vocal interpretation
while paying homage to Peggy Lee, who set the standard for class
and elegance in concert halls and supper clubs throughout the world.
There was only one King of Swing, and one Peggy Lee. If imitation
is truly the sincerest form of flattery both Benny and Peggy would
be proud.

of Greek-Canadian Pavlo and his stunning band of musicians. Blending
the traditions of Greek, Latin, & Spanish music, Pavlo dubs
his music as Mediterranean. Exciting sounds of guitar, Bouzouki,
drums, keyboard and myriad instruments transcend demographics or
genre distinctions. Beginning his training early in life, Pavlo's
father encouraged him to "Have the courage to do what you love,
and the drive to do it well." With numerous awards to his credit,
Pavlo has lived up to those words, saying, "My mission in life
is to bring my music to as many people as I can while I'm here on
this earth."

The New York Theatre Ballet
Cinderella
Tuesday, March 17, 2009
A
dancing clock, wacky stepsisters, and everyone's favorite rags-to-riches
princess are all part of this enchanting story. "On the plus
side, the under-publicized New York Theatre Ballet, courageously
maintained by Diana Byer for three decades, may be the most intriguingly
programmed ballet company in the United States. With a mission to
maintain the Cecchetti-Diaghilev traditions, and with the authoritative
assistance of giants like Sallie Wilson, championing the repertory
of Antony Tudor particularly - not to mention its school - NYTB
has established itself as an essential international ballet company."
-Paul Ben-Itzak, The Dance Insider, November 2007.

The Woods Tea Company
Music & Comedy
Tuesday, April 28, 2009
Piping
the pennywhistle, burning up the banjo and bodhran, grilling a fine
guitar and spicing it all up with plenty of quick, dry wit is The
Woods Tea Company's famous recipe! This folk music quartet fires
off impressive vocal harmonies, and cooks up a spirited brew of
bluegrass, Irish, Celtic and "old sea" shanties. A coveted
partnership with PBS has aided the group's rapid rise, taking them
to admiring fans across the U.S. With down home charm, and approachability,
The Woods Tea Company naturally achieves something few other acts
do - a real, genuine rapport with the audience that brings you to
"the edge of your seat tapping your feet, clapping your hands,
laughing, and singing along!" per the Dayton, Ohio review.
